Signs You Need New Brake Pads Signs You Need New Brake Pads Your brakes are one of the most important part of your
car. They enable you to control your vehicle’s speed and stop it safely. Like
anything else in your car, they need to be maintained and inspected regularly
to ensure they are working correctly.
This month’s blog at A.M. Engineering looks at some of
the signs you need new brake pads. For more information, call us in Bromsgrove
on 01527 833748 .
High Pitched Screeching If you hear high pitched screeching when you apply your
brakes, it could mean that your pads are getting low and need replacing soon. Some
brake pads have a small piece of metal in them, known as a wear indicator. This
lets you know when it’s time for new pads. Other pads have a wire on them that
will put a light on the dash board when they are worn.
Your Vehicle Pulls If your car pulls to one side when you brake, this can be a
problem if you need to brake in an emergency situation. Your car pulling to one
side could be due to a calliper or calliper sliders sticking which can also
result in uneven pad wear
Your Pedal Vibrates If you notice vibration through your brake pedal as you slow
down, you need to get your brakes checked. A vibrating pedal is a sign that
your brake discs are warped, you may also notice it through the steering wheel
in more severe cases.
Stopping the Car Takes More Time This can be down to a number of reasons; your brake pads and
disks could be old and worn, so they don’t grip as well, the brake fluid is
old, or the hydraulic system is losing fluid and pressure. Or a number of other
things so its always worth getting them checked even if its just for peace of
mind.
